Out in the big boat again, the afternnon storms didn't materialise which is fortunate as we were able to get out on the bay as a result. Paddled out into a fairly solid northerly bouncing over swells copping a few in the face even though in seat 2! Had to work though a few technique adaptations as good habits in the K1/C1 are not good in the outrigger its more of a boofhead stroke and the paddle being fairly simple in design works differently.
The run home was more fun and sigificantly quicker, chasing runners / swells fairly intense periods of effort.
All up over an hour of fairly hard continuous paddling, good resistance training was very tired, woke up on couch at 12:30 that night hardly able to move....so tired......looking forward to loosening up paddle tomorrow night with the boys.

Wednesday
Hmm
Not much wind in the afternoon, though I'd go out in the C1 for the coaching session.
Of course the wind then blew up so I floated around prcticing turning in the wind (this C1 is a pig to turn in the wind). Jumped in the K1 for a bit and then the win ddied down, go figure.
Anyway stability and steering fine in the wind in this boat so once I have made a proper foot rest I'll be fine, going to Steve's factory tomorrow to chat about this.
Thursday Lunch...... ran 3 x Hill sprints on Kangan Dve with the boys at School....... I hate running breathing like an old goat.. will be good for me in the long run i'm sure!

Tuesday 28th Oct
Late meeting at school left work about 5ish.
Due to less than ideal time training is better done from home so I got out the road bike.
While having ridden the mountain bike a bit recently I have only been on the road on the indoor trainer.
Invented a new loop up in the hills near home and rode for about an hour either up or down hill so it was quite a good varied and challenging workout. Felt better than I thought I would and actually was feeling strong on the sustained climbs despite weighing over 10kg more (due to a few years gym, but contributes power) than last time I was bike fit!
I have lost a bit of condition on the bike so sessions will increase by 15 to 30min each time, pretty soon I'll be cracking out 2 to 3 hour rides for cross training.
Key to bike cross training for me, C1 paddling is more demanding on legs than K1 hence I need to make sure I am more conditioned all over than in previous years.

Monday 27th October
A pretty uneventful weekend of training for me, struggling a bit at the moment to get going and have so many other jobs to do.
Saturday
Had a great sleepin and went to coaching, the team did well with many doing their longest ever continuous paddles in singles. A testament to their improving fitness and developing abilities.
Spent the rest of the day doing jobs around the house and had sister in law's 30th birthday.
Sunday
More chores and jobs to do, had to take the safety boat over to Templestowe training wasn't an option today.
Monday
12.5km
1hr of 2min low Level 2, 3min High Level 2 continous.
Felt quite good very relaxed focus on extension into catch probably a bit sloppy on exits.
Very windy but good drive, lungs excellent low level of puff.

Friday
Woke up very sore from last night's training.
Paddled with the boys in the afternoon we did about 11km at an easy pace, was good for loosening up sore back.

Thursday
Outrigger training...... 6 people.. massive boat.. out on the bay.. can only be described as hard.....
Having said that quite a valuable training session, lots of resistance. Also paddled a two person outrigger which was much smoother and quite fun to paddle.
This is the closest type of paddling to downriver C1 so will be a regular cross training session, good use of body rotation similar to kayak.

Wednesday
Coaching on the water tonight, took the training C1 out after tweaking the rear foot brace, still needs more adjustment will need to make a whole new one i think, no biggie, happy with the paddle setup now. Once I get the foot brace and knee pad finalised should be all sorted and cutting laps of the lake in no time! Had to rush off to the valedictory dinner staraight after session though, so much for cutting down on the rushing around!
Tuesday 21st Oct
Large day at work, quite exhausting really not much time between classes and year 12 shenanigans.
Didn't paddle in city as planned as a car crash on the Monash choked the traffic, went home and did an hour on the indoor bikie trainer while watching a trashy movie on the computer!

Monday 20th Oct
Big day at work again, took new training C1 out onto the lake with some of the juniors to play with the setup and work out what I need to change.
Need rear foot brace moved forward, tape on paddle, knee pad is close to what I want will need to make a new longer one though this week.

Sunday 19th October
Organised the 5 and 10kms Champs.
The day was pretty hectic to start with but that was due to the larger number of entrants this year. It was great to see so many junior paddlers on the water , many having a crack in the 10km's with the seniors!

Wednesday 15th to Saturday 18th October
Wednesday afternoon coached, the group who got through a 12 set session reasonably well although many tired at the end. Wanted to do a few more laps after but had dressed to lightly and was freezing as the sun went down, note for next time!
Thursday, went over to fairfield Canoe Club and had a paddle with Trinity ( I know the enemy, but they are nice people) paddled with their coordinator and chatted about various issues including the future of the Murray. Gave him some tech tip for his paddling, it was nice paddling that secion of the Yarra as I hadn't been there for many years but used to train there every day! Got home late again grrr.
Friday arvo, well not to plan at all no training too busy running around collecting gear for the weekend.
Saturday morning coaching, started day well with a coffee from the Kiss the sky cafe in Clemaits (best coffee in are mind you!) Coached group, K4 crew went very well, all boats packed for tomorrow and ready I hope.
Saturday arvo, had a great C1 paddle with Trifon who raced at sprint world champs last year, over an hour on water finally something consistant this week.
Bit stressed about how tomorrow will run, hope it goes smoothly.

Monday 13th to Wednesday 15th October
Finally back on the water Monday night paddled about 12km with a few of the team members on the wash for practice, didn't go too easy on them so they had to work for it it is all good for them developing a tactical brain for racing as this is an area in which they are all needing much improvement. Change the focus from who is around them in a social sense to who is around them in a racing mode, they chat way too much and lose concentration too easily! Come National champs this needs to be automatic.
Tuesday afternoon was a stretch for my back and a session on the spinning bike indoors to get the legs moving and loosen the lower back, felt much better for it afterwards. I have also picked up my race boat and brought it home for a bit to paddle at the lake for the rest of the week. Spent until about 11pm in the shed working on a boat.
Wednedsay morning paddled C1 with Steve at Patterson lakes, felt awesome and had the boat moving nicely even with the strong wind building making steering more challenging. Focus points have been getting hips rotating and relaxing lowerback, enabling greater catch and reach.
Afternoon plan is coaching and then about 7 or 8km afterwards.

Hand finally better
Finally my hand is better and I can paddle again. Last week was quite restful as a result but at least allowed me to get a few jobs done such as finish my C1 set up and more boat repairs!
Tested the downriver C1 on the lake on Saturday a few more adjustments are needed but it is ready for some moving water next weekend.
learned alot about making kayaks on Saturday and Sunday thanks to Steve and Cameron, skills that will be handy in the future I'm sure.....
Monday I'll be back on the water and playing catchup on fitness.

Week beginning 6th October
Monday
Back at work on, hand is very sore so no training today, Mountain bike ride cancelled due to torrential rain and Hail. A coffee and discussion of further rides ensued.
Tuesday
Got out for a mountainbike ride after work at Lysterfield, 1hr 10mins, felt pretty good with a solid intensity, still not much action from my fingers. Rode all uphill sections of rock garden on Comm games track most evil downhills avoided partly due to rain and also being a bit wussy.
Wednesday
First day back on the water, hand kind of works and grab the paddle but still very tender and needs more healing, paddled up and down lake during coaching session. Very pleased at the progress being made by the younger and new members of the group.

Weekend at Bendigo
The holidays are over, lots of cross training done on the bike and in the pool, some evil masssages and now recovered from the flu and back on the water.
C1 paddling is the order of the day at the moment, after a few weeks off the knee due to illness the skills were a bit rusty on the weekend. Saturday's 10km in the wind, avoiding snakes were a bit of a slog and resulted in a hand torn up by tape on the paddle, but the km's need doing and there is no time like the present to get the work done to make up for lost fitness. There are only 3 months remaining to get in form for wildwater selection races in Tassie.
The weekend was spend in the Bendigo region with the school team, it is great to see some of the improvements being made by the team paddlers especially the younger ones who seem to be soaking up the opportunities and technical advice. Most of the members of the team are getting out in K2's now which is awesome as well as necessary, even some of the younger fellas want to have a crack at it! It is rewarding to see the progress being made, a relief but the journey for these young people is but a step into a long journey ahead for the the next 6 months and beyond...
